Cooper Tire, located just south of the start line at 96th and Olio Road, will be providing discounts to those VIP runners, volunteers, and Month of May Club participants utilizing a parking pass in one of the adjacent parking lots. All participants will receive a special discount prior to the race, just in time for summer travel.

“We want to be a part of the community and the Geist Half Marathon is a perfect vehicle for us to do that,” said Bob Williams, a Geist resident and co-owner of Cooper Tire Auto Service Center at Geist.

The 2012 Geist Half Marathon medal features the 5th anniversary design and year.

Finishers of the Geist Half Marathon and 5K race will all receive a finishers’ medal to memorialize their accomplishments. Each year, the finishers’ medal receives some of the highest ratings in our post-race surveys and this year will be no different. Celebrating our 5th anniversary, this year’s medals feature the “5th Anniversary” banner around the logo and the year 2012 under the sail boats.

Allegra Marketing Print Signs announced today that they have renewed their sponsorship support for the 5th Annual St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon & 5K to be held at Geist Reservoir on May 19, 2012. Allegra will provide marketing support services including promotional printing, signage and expo displays for the Geist Half Marathon & 5K races, course, and packet pick-up at Hamilton Southeastern High School.

The Geist Half Marathon Inc. is an Indiana nonprofit corporation organized to inspire health and wellness in the children surrounding Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis, Indiana. Working closely with the greater Geist community, the Geist Half Marathon raises funds to benefit physical fitness programs being jointly implemented within the schools. Last year’s race drew over 6,000 registered participants raising over $40,000 for Lawrence Township and Hamilton Southeastern Schools.

“Providing community support is an important goal at Allegra,” said John Long, owner. “The St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon was created to provide a means of helping local physical fitness programs receive assistance that may not be addressed by other funding sources. This is our 5th year of involvement with the Geist race and we couldn’t be more pleased in playing a small part of the success of this great community event.”

Tom Britt, Executive Director of the Geist Half Marathon adds, “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with area schools again this year to promote this fun and healthy event to children. Our school program, and the far reaching benefits it has brought to the over 1,500 youth who participate, is an aspect of last year’s event that we are most proud of. We are working to expand upon this success so as to continue to support the school foundations’ efforts to combat the growing problem of childhood obesity. This program is a way for us to make a difference in our community, one step at a time,” said Britt. “Along with Allegra, we feel that it is extremely important to reach out to those in need and help our local schools.”

Over 800 volunteers are needed to do everything from handing out race shirts to passing out water to participants.

Volunteers are essential in the success of any great event. They are vital in providing a safe, organized and fun race. It will take over 1,000 volunteers to ensure the safety, accuracy, fun and the highest level of organization necessary to produce the St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon and 5K.

Volunteers are needed to help with the packet pick-up, course marshals, distribute water at the aid stations, handout finisher’s medals and in many other areas that make up the St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon race weekend. Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age.

Now is your chance to take part in welcoming all of the athletes that will be joining us for this amazing world class event. All volunteers will receive a Race Crew T-Shirt.

St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon & 5K has made a commitment to help Indiana kids “Get Fit”. We encourage area schools and youth organizations to develop their own training program by gathering a group of kids and adult mentors who would like to participate in our race. Groups can choose either the 5K (more appropriate for the younger and novice runner) or the half marathon (for the older more experienced runner). Promotion of the training program, registration for the race and race day management is the responsibility of the school. We offer resources and guidance to assist with these processes, as well as, a training program coordinator that will be there to support the school every step of the way.

What you will need to get started:

1. Adult training mentor/s, to assist students in their pre-event training and event preparation, plus race day assistance
2. Adult volunteer support to assist with administration and perhaps training if needed
3. “Can do” attitude!

There are several youth training programs that are going on their third year with the event and their numbers continue to grow every year. This is the direct result of the strong commitment of the program mentors and volunteers. All the effort is worth its weight in gold, when you see your youth participants step out of their comfort zone and complete their first 5K (3.1 miles) or half marathon (13.1 miles)
