Race directors from five Indiana distance races joined forces and announced today the formation of the Indiana Distance Running Series (www.IndianaRunningSeries.com). Spanning the state of Indiana, the Indiana Distance Running Series represents five event locations hosting either a full marathon and/or a half marathon during the 2010 running season. Runners accumulate points based upon their sex, distance ran, and finishing place. Participation is free.
“Indiana has some great distance races. We’re hoping to inspire more distance runners to stay in Indiana this year and compete in our races,” said Joel Sauer, President of the Community Health Network Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon on October 16, 2010.
First-year series races include:
- Evansville-The Inaugural Southern Indiana Classic Marathon & Half Marathon (April 11)
- Fishers-Geist Half Marathon (May 22)
- South Bend-Sunburst Races Marathon & Half Marathon (June 5)
- Fort Wayne-Fort4Fitness Half Marathon (September 25)
- Indianapolis-Indianapolis Marathon & Half Marathon (October 16)
“All of our races are nonprofits and benefit our respective local charities,” said Tom Britt, President of the Geist Half Marathon on May 22, 2010. “We want to work together to inspire more local runners to run more Indiana races.”
Persons interested in participating in the year-long race series are encouraged to visit www.IndianaRunningSeries.com and sign-up for free news alerts, points standings, and other information specific to the Indiana Distance Running Series.
